Toll-Free Number (TFN) Verification Overview
This article explains what TFN verification is, why it's required, and how to complete it. If you're ready to start, go straight to How to fill out the Toll-Free Number (TFN) Verification Form.
Toll-Free Numbers (TFNs) that are Unverified or Pending Verification cannot send messages. All toll-free numbers, regardless of use case, must be Verified to originate traffic.
From 15 September 2026, every new TFN verification submission must also include a link to your Privacy Policy and a link to your Terms & Conditions. This applies to new submissions only, already-verified TFNs aren't affected. See "What information do I need to provide?" below.
A Business Registration Number (BRN) is required for every new TFN verification submission. See What is Business Registration Number for Toll-Free Sender Verification?
Why do I need to verify my TFN?
Here’s the lowdown on what’s happening with TFN verification requirements.
US and Canadian mobile carriers require every toll-free number used for business messaging to be verified before it can send. This isn't a best-practice recommendation, it's a condition of being able to send at all.
Verification exists to combat fraud and spam, and to confirm toll-free numbers are used by real, identifiable businesses. It applies to every messaging service provider, not just Sinch Engage.
What are the benefits?
Most importantly: verification is what lets your TFN send at all. An unverified or pending TFN doesn't just run a higher risk of being blocked, it is blocked, with no exceptions.
Beyond that baseline, a verified TFN with clean, accurate information also:
- Reduces the chance of your number being flagged for suspected spam or fraud once it's live
- Reduces the chance of your messages being filtered for containing high-risk keywords
Verification is free, no matter how many TFNs you have.
What do I need to do?
Verification is a short form, around 10 to 15 minutes. Have the following ready before you start:
- Your name and email address
- Your registered business name, website, and address
- Your Business Registration Number (BRN): an EIN if you're US-based, or your local equivalent if not (full list by country)
- A link to your Privacy Policy and a link to your Terms & Conditions (required for submissions from 15 September 2026; see the how-to-fill-out article for what each page needs to include)
- How many messages your business sends every month
- Your primary use case for TFN messages
- Sample messages
- Evidence of how customers opt in to receive your messages (real screenshots of your sign-up page, opt-in form, or advertising)
The more complete and specific your submission, the faster it moves through review.
Where do I complete verification?
Go to Settings > Numbers > Dedicated Numbers in the web portal to see which TFNs need verification. Any unverified TFN shows an alert in the Number Status column.
Click Verify my TFN next to the number to open the guided form, most of your account details are pre-filled. If you can't access this for any reason, you can complete the form directly on TFN Verification application form
Once you've submitted the form correctly, you'll receive a confirmation email, and our team will take it from there and keep you updated at each step of the process. For more information, see Toll-Free Number (TFN).
What happens if I don’t comply?
Messages sent from an unverified TFN are blocked. You keep access to every other account feature and won't be charged extra, but that number can't send until it's verified.
What happens if I have multiple TFNs?
You'll need a specific business reason to verify more than one TFN under a single application, for example:
- Multiple contact centres
- Multiple store locations
- A need for regional coverage

How many TFN verification applications can I submit?
You can submit as many TFNs as you need verified, but each distinct use case needs its own application.
- You can submit multiple TFNs for the same use case on one application.
- You can't submit TFNs for different use cases on the same application.
- All TFNs on a single application must share the same use case.
- The business named on the application must be the actual business creating and sending the messages, not a reseller or ISV submitting on a customer's behalf, this will be rejected.
Does it cost anything to verify my TFN?
No. Verification is free, regardless of how many TFNs you're verifying.
Can I keep sending messages during the verification process?
No. Messages sent from a TFN that's still pending verification are blocked, the same as an unverified number, until verification completes.
