Dynamics | Adding SMS to your Dynamics Workflows (Version 1.1)

Workflows can be used to better communicate with customers by automatically sending SMS messages from within Dynamics 365. You can add the SMS action in new and existing workflows as soon as the SMS for Dynamics solution is installed in your organization.

If you haven't installed SMS for Dynamics yet, this article can help you do that. Once that's sorted, let's take a look at how to add SMS to your workflows:

This article covers workflows version 1.1. In this version Custom Entities outside of Accounts, Contacts and Leads are now supported.

 

1. Open Dynamics 365 and go to Processes, then you can either create a New workflow (process), or you can click on an existing Process Name:

2. From within the process, click on the Add Step dropdown arrow, select SMS for Dynamics.Workflows (1.1.0.0), then click on SMSForDynamics.Workflows.SendSMS:

 

3. Then select version 1.1 from the dropdown and click on Set Properties:

 

4. Now set the properties for the flow.

  1. Sender ID - Optional Field to enter the provisioned Dedicated number, Toll Free number or 10 DLC in E.164 international format (e.g. +614xxxxxxxx) so it appears on the phone as the sender. Shortcode in local format without the country code and Alphanumeric (alphanumeric sender IDs) sender IDs that have been provisioned can be entered without spaces. If this is left blank the sender ID will default to the Sinch Engage Account settings.
  2. From - Optional field to specify the user the message will be logged as from in the communication timeline, reply messages will be routed back to the user. This can be a dynamics field eg: Lead Owner. If this is left blank the From references the user who triggered the workflow.
  3. ToNumber - Recipient mobile number field to receive the message.
  4. Message - This is where you create your message.
  5. Is Opt-Out? - To send to recipients who haven't opted out.
  6. CreateSMSRecord - To log the message. For Custom Entities, if CreateSMSRecord is set to True then creating a new activity must be enabled on the entity. Otherwise CreateSMSRecord must be set to False.

 

5. Then click Save and Close on the top left to add the SMS action to your workflow.

6. Once you are happy with your workflow, click Activate to activate the workflow.
