To send a SMS through a Journey, you'll need to set up a text message, a segment and a journey.
Set up a Text Message
- Create a Text Message by navigating to the Text Message section in Real-time Journeys. Click the +New button to a create a Text Message.
- On the Text Message screen, add a name, select a Text message sender from the Sinch SMS Provider, enter the Message content and set the Compliance profile and Purpose.
Click Save and Ready to Send. Ready to Send indicates that the Text Message can be used in a Journey.

Set up a Segment
To send a SMS through a Journey, you'll also need to set up a segment (a segment is the audience you want to send the SMS to). To create a segment:
- Navigate to Segments and click +New Segment.
- On the New Segment screen, enter a name for the segment, select the target audience and click Create.
After creating the audience, click Ready to Use to start using this Segment in your Journeys.

Set up a Journey
To create a Journey:
- Navigate to Journeys and click the +New Journey button.
- Fill out the Create a new journey form and then click the Create button.
- Name the journey
- Type of journey - select 'Segment based' for the type of journey. Alternatively, you can also select "Trigger-based".
- Select a segment
- Select the frequency
- Select the time-zone
- Select the start date/time
- To start building out the steps in your journey, click the + button and select the Text Message action.
- Once the Text Message action has been added, you can customise it by adding a Text Message sender from the Sinch SMS Provider, choosing a Text Message and defining the Send to field.
Click the Publish button to complete this step. Your Journey will trigger based on the start date/time and frequency you set.
