Outbound messages are recorded as Tasks in the related record's activity feed.
Viewing Outbound Messages
When an outbound message is sent, a Task record is created with a subject of "SMS: Sent" and the description field will contain the message content. The outbound message is displayed as a task in the related record's activity feed as well as in the Message Feed.
Sending Outbound Messages
Outbound messages can be sent in various ways:
- Sending a message to an individual
- Sending a bulk message to Campaign Members
- Sending a bulk message to a List View
- Sending a message automatically in a Flow
All outbound messages, whether free-form or from a Template, support Merge Fields. A message can merge fields from the related object record, records related to the object, record owner, or sending user.
Destination Number Fields
You can send outbound messages from any Standard or Custom Object* within Salesforce that has one of the following field types:
- Phone type field
- Text type field that contains the word "phone" in the Name
- Formula type field that contains the word "phone" in the Name
Valid phone fields should be in international format and should not include any special characters or spaces (i.e. US numbers should include the prefix 1 followed by the number - 15554445555).
*Custom Objects must have "Allow activities" enabled (see this Salesforce article)
NOTE: For Text and Formula Fields, the "phone" string is case insensitive, so both "Phone" and "phone" are supported. |
