Mercury SMS logs inbound messages as Tasks in the related Salesforce record's activity feed.
Viewing Messages
All inbound messages will create a Task record with the subject "SMS: Received," and the description field will contain the message content.
When an inbound message is received, the Assigned To user (see Task Assignment settings) can be notified in the following ways:
- The message will appear in the Message Feed
- The message will appear in the SMS Inbox
- An email can be sent to the User (see Trigger User Email setting)
Attachments (MMS)
Inbound MMS photos will be attached to the Task record and will appear in the Message Feed as shown below.
The attachment link is stored on the Task record in the "Media" field.
NOTE: At this time, MessageMedia only supports Inbound MMS in Australia and the United States. To use the Inbound MMS feature in Mercury SMS, you'll need to have MMS activated for your MessageMedia Hub account. You can submit a feature activation request here. |
Unsolicited Inbound Messages
Unsolicited inbound messages can also be received. An unsolicited inbound message is where the person has initiated the original message from their device and sent it to your MessageMedia number, instead of replying to an outbound message. Unsolicited inbound messages are related to all records with a matching phone mapping field. To learn more about what happens when your account receives an unsolicited inbound message, see this article.
NOTE: Unsolicited messages can only be received if you have a Dedicated Number on your MessageMedia account. Setting up Dedicated Numbers needs to be done directly with MessageMedia. |
