The SMS Inbox is most commonly added as a utility item in the Salesforce apps your teams already use (e.g. Sales, Service, etc.), but the SMS Inbox can also be installed on a Console App, Mobile App, Home Page or the Salesforce Classic Sidebar.
Instructions on how to add the SMS Inbox to each of these areas are included below.
Utility Item in Existing App | Recommended
The SMS Inbox is automatically installed in the utility bar in the MercurySMS app but can be added to whichever standard or custom apps your users use.
1. Navigate to the application's utility bar tab - for support, see this Salesforce article.
2. Add the SMS Inbox utility.
The SMS Inbox will now show on the bottom left of the application in the utility bar:
Note - Ensure you check the box for SMS Inbox alert on the Setup & Configuration tab of the Mercury SMS app to allow the SMS Inbox to pop up and play a notification sound when a new message is received. |
Add to a Mobile App
If you'd like to have the SMS Inbox available from a Mobile App, it’s a simple case of adding it to your navigation menu.
1. Navigate to the desired app's navigation settings.
2. Add the SMS Inbox to the navigation menu - for support, see this Salesforce article.
The SMS Inbox will then be available in the menu options on the Salesforce Mobile App:
Add to a Home Page
You can add the SMS Inbox to a Home Page in Lightning.
1. Create a custom Home Page via the Lightning App Builder or edit an existing Home Page - for support, see this Salesforce article.
2. Add the desired components along with the SMS Inbox component.
3. Save and activate the page if necessary.
Navigate back to the Home Page and you’ll see the SMS Inbox directly on the page layout:
Add to the Classic Sidebar
A Custom Component is included that can be added to your Salesforce Classic Sidebar. To add this to the Home Page Sidebar, follow the instructions below:
1. Navigate to the desired Home Page Layout - for support, see this Salesforce article.
2. Edit the Home Page Layout.
3. Check the SMS Inbox component box, then click Next.
4. Arrange the SMS Inbox in the desired column - recommended Narrow column.
5. Click Save.
You can also make your Custom Sidebar Components visible on all pages by following the instructions below:
1. Navigate to User Interface settings - for support, see this Salesforce article.
2. Check the box for Show Custom Sidebar Components on All Pages.
3. Click Save.
This will enable you to have your SMS Inbox visible on all pages within Salesforce Classic:
Add to a Classic Console
If you use the Console in the Classic UI, you’ll be excited to hear that you’re able to configure the SMS Inbox to work within the Console environment.
1. Create a new Custom Console Component as follows - for support, see this Salesforce article:

2. Add the Custom Console Component created to the Console app - for support, see this Salesforce article.
Now, when you use the Console, you’ll be able to access the SMS Inbox as illustrated below. When you click the record link (e.g. Case, Lead, etc.) it'll automatically load the record in a new tab within the Console:
