SMS Limits can be set per day and/or per month, and they're an effective way to:
▶ Control your usage.
▶ Prevent user error whereby a user might upload a misconfigured file with many more recipients than intended.
▶ Prevent machine error whereby an integrated, automated system might send more messages than intended.
Important:
Setting an SMS limit means that the account can only send SMS messages up to the specified daily or monthly volume limit.
You don't want to limit your account from sending important messages, so use common sense when setting the limit.
Any messages exceeding this limit will be marked as Discarded in the log reports and will need to be resent once the next window opens or the limit is increased by an administrator.
Messages marked as discarded won't be resent automatically in the next SMS window and will need to be re-triggered manually in order to resend.
You could look at past messaging trends when calculating, but beware of seasonal changes in sending patterns and organic increases due to business growth.
If there is a System limit in place, you can request to raise the limit via our team here. The limit on the parent account is a total limit for the account, meaning that regardless of what is set on a sub account, the system limit is the total amount the account will be able to send.
How to Set or Edit the SMS Limit
1. In the menu, click on the icon, then select Numbers & Channels:
2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Find where it says SMS Limit, and click on the Edit icon.
4. Enter a value in either the Per day or Per month text area.
5. Now click Save and you're done.
Note - Raising the system limit can be done on request by submitting a ticket to our team. In this request please be sure to advise the reason for the increase, as well as what you would like the new limit to be (this cannot be unlimited)
